Fløien Folkerestaurant
Category: Traditional Norwegian Food

Fløien Folkerestaurant – 320 metres above sea level – has a spectacular architecture and location above Bergen.
The Fløyen mountain has been a popular excursion for locals and visitors for centuries. Fløyen or Fløyfjellet (originally written Fløien) is the most visited of the seven mountains that surround the city centre of Bergen, Norway. It has a funicular system Fløibanen that transports passengers from the centre of Bergen to a height of 320 metres in roughly 8 minutes, and the actual highest point (425 metres) on Fløifjellet is approximately 1 km to the northeast. The funicular is used by tourists and citizens alike year-round.

The building was completed on 13 July 1925, forming a landmark for Bergen at the top of the most popular of the seven mountains. The beautiful architecture was designed to the tiniest detail, including ornamentation and interior, by Einar Oscar Schou. The restaurant has now been reverently restored, with respect for the architect’s way of thinking, but fitted with modern comforts.
